Our Sustainability Principals

 

The concern for sustainable development is at the core of our values and our day to day actions.

Our sustainable development policy covers all actions that contribute to the Company's economic development, being:

  • Respectful of the people it employs through decent working conditions, the development of employees’ skills and employability, non-discrimination and respect for the principles of fairness;
  • Beneficial for its clients with a goal of excellence in its projects every day.
  • Reporting anti-competitive or bribery practices the Company comes across in the course of its activities. 
  • Attentive to the human communities with which it interacts through actions to help people in difficulty, by preserving employment areas where the Company operates.

 

Wilfred Giles & Company is a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact

The Company joined the UN Global Compact in 2018 and supports through this commitment the 10 principles of the Global Compact about human rights, labor, environment, and corruption. These principles are in line with the Company’s values and fundamentals. The Company is committed to promoting the principles of the Global Compact to all stakeholders. 

The 10 Principles of the UN Global Compact

 Human rights

  • Principle 1:Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
  • Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Labor

  • Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
  • Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labor;
  • Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labor; and
  • Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment

  • Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
  • Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
  • Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-corruption

  • Principle 10:Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extorsion and bribery.
